Societal and technology forces are changing the rules of the game in mobility. Well established concepts such as mass-transit, vehicle ownership, mobility patterns or congested roads are shifting as new business models are developed. Also, the conventional wisdom that more capacity is the only way to meet an ever-growing demand might no longer be true. A different future can be imagined in which the tragedy of the commons, defined in mobility terms as the increase of individual mobility at the expense of the rest of the population, is no longer an issue. Regulation and technology will play a key role.
